Waking up the Summer with Music at the Cannery
Submitted by Heritage Interpreter Antonia L.
After days of moody skies, the sun decided to come out in time to welcome The Irish Waker & Friends in opening our series of summer concerts, Music at the Cannery. A medley of traditional Irish tunes with nods to the Canadian Maritime played out over the Fraser. As 2018 BC Open Fiddle Champion Michael Burnyeat rocked it on the violin, lead vocalist Blake Williams sang his heart out accompanied by the flute and backing vocals of Hugh Brock. The first sold-out show of the season had the Cannery’s outdoor Tank Deck at full capacity. Joined by a female vocalist, the Irish Wakers & Friends had the crowd clapping and dancing to the song “Tell My Mom”. As the night drew to a close, music-goers looked forward to next week’s concert. We thank the Maple Residences for their sponsorship of the opening night’s performance.
Join us again on Friday July 19th for a wonderful time with the Halifax Wharf Rats. Music at the Cannery features a local musical act every Friday night from July 12 to August 30 at 6:30pm (doors open at 6pm). Concerts take place outdoors or held indoors if rain. Tickets are $7 each, sold at the door. For more information, call the Cannery at 604.664.9009.
