Volunteer with the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society to connect with your community, gain valuable work experience, make friends, develop new skills, and learn about the history of this National Historic Site.
Volunteer Roles at the Cannery
Gallery Attendant: Learn about the history of the West Coast commercial fishing industry and share this knowledge with Cannery visitors. No previous experience or knowledge is necessary; all training is provided. Gallery Attendants may volunteer on a regular basis and/or during special events.
Education Program Assistants: Gallery Attendants may attend additional training to assist with Education Programs. Education Program Assistants may volunteer on a regular basis and/or during special events.
Gift Shop Assistant: Receive, organize, label, and display items for the Cannery Store. From May to September, Gift Shop Assistants help Gift Shop Staff with customer inquiries.
Special Events – Visitor Services: Greet, lead activities and provide information to visitors attending special events at the Cannery. These fast-paced shifts happen throughout the year at events like Easter at the Cannery, The Haunted Sea, and more.
Special Events – Backstage Crew: Build, prepare and set up/take down materials for special events throughout the year. Learn new skills and be part of an exciting ‘behind the scenes’ team!
Archival Research/Collections: Assist the Collections Manager with special projects; subject to availability.
