Youth Programs
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site offers a variety of interactive youth programs and activities inside a unique heritage setting. Our guided programs offer kids of all ages an opportunity to explore, learn, share and have fun! Each program costs $7.75 per youth (min. 10), including taxes. Please note that we require at least two weeks’ notice to arrange bookings.
Cannery Quest (Ages 6-12)
Cannery Quest is a fun and interactive experience for youth 6 to 12. Stepping away from the traditional curriculum-based learning, this program includes: A film viewing in the Cannery’s Boiler House Theatre; a guided tour of the Canning Line, Fish Wall, and Fishing the West Coast exhibits; and two interactive games in our Cannery classroom. Students and youth will enjoy being immersed in and engaged by our rich history. (90 minutes)
Cannery Quest Jr. (Ages 3-6)
Perfect for preschool and younger out-of-school groups, Cannery Quest Jr. follows the journey the salmon takes from the ocean to your plate! Facilitating learning through games and teamwork, this program includes: a hands on scavenger hunt down the Canning Line, visits to our Fish Wall and Fishing the West Coast exhibits, and a puzzle-solving activity that explores the steps in the salmon canning process. Let this adventurous program introduce your group to museum world! (60 minutes)
English Language Learners (ELL (Ages 8-17)
Visit a Parks Canada National Historic Site and learn about how canning salmon on Canada’s West Coast is an important part of our history. Students will learn about the salmon life-cycle, tour the historic salmon canning line, and learn about people who immigrated here from all over the world to work in this industry. Tours are interactive and can be adapted to various ages and English language levels. (60-90 minutes)
