New to the Crew: Taking on Easter

Back in January of this year, the Cannery Crew was pleased to welcome Ben Geisberg to the team as our Public Programs Coordinator.

Since then, he has boldly taken on the National Historic Site’s programming that the community knows and loves. Ben is acutely aware of the local significance of the Cannery.

“One of my favourite parts of my new role has been seeing how much the Cannery is a part of the Steveston community. I love seeing how tight-knit and cute it is down here.”

This public programming includes Easter at the Cannery (April 7-9) which happens to be his first major event to plan. As a Steveston Village staple, this is no small endeavour. With such a widely known program with many moving parts, planning it can be an intimidating task. As the Easter long-weekend nears, Ben describes his feelings frankly.

“It’s been a lot of effort, and a lot of anxiety about my first big event.” However, he remains confident, stating “the best part is yet to come – seeing all that stress and work pay off!”

While reviewing the storage garage full of hands-on activities, games, and crafts that he has planned for the event, Ben hopes attendees are excited. When asked what they can look forward to at this year’s Easter at the Cannery, he says, “an afternoon full of fun and out of the rain at the Cannery.”

Once Easter passes, Ben has a lot more to look forward to with his new position. From daily programming to major public events, the spring and summer months mean the Gulf of Georgia Cannery will be at its busiest.

“I’m definitely looking forward to it being more than 10 degrees inside the Cannery,” he jokingly remarks. “But besides that, I’m really looking forward to Welcoming the Sun! I think it’s going to be another spectacular event this year, and Cannery members should keep their eye out for it.”

The Cannery Crew can’t thank Ben enough for all his hard work planning for Easter at the Cannery this weekend. Additionally, we would like to extend a massive thank-you to all the volunteers that have assisted him so far. We hope you join us this Friday to Sunday from 10:30am to 4:30. Special event admission rates do apply; however, Cannery Members and Discovery Pass holders are free. Learn more and RSVP today at gulfofgeorgiacannery.org/easter
