National Volunteer Week 2020
Submitted by Tara Miller, Visitor Services Coordinator
Thank you to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society’s wonderful crew of volunteers. Canada’s National Volunteer Week is April 19-25, and we want to express how much we appreciate all that the Cannery volunteers do!
We have a remarkable community of volunteers – when you visit the Cannery, chances are you will meet at least one of them.
They are involved in every department: With the public as greeters, tour guides, gallery attendants, at information tables and in the gift shop; behind-the-scenes transcribing oral histories, scanning historical documents, mailing out newsletters, processing memberships; on the Board of Directors and Committees; preparing and cleaning up after special events; and even mentoring each other!
We are incredibly fortunate to have over 100 volunteers who contribute thousands of hours each year. They even range in age from 11 to 90 years old!
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society was founded by volunteers in 1986 and we are lucky that some of those founding members remain active with the Society today. We are also grateful for the many new volunteers that we welcome each year. To all our volunteers: We value all that you do, we are missing you right now, and we look forward to seeing you again, soon!
