Have your say about Steveston’s public art
What’s a visit to the Cannery without a photo taken with these three familiar figures? The iconic Steveston Legacy statues have stood guard in front of the Cannery since 2009, and have been the photo subject of many Instagrams and Tweets.
Created by sculptor Norm Williams, the three represent individuals from the fishing industry, in a scene reminiscent of Steveston’s waterfront, circa 1930’s.
The statues are a true example of a community effort, the creation of which was sponsored by a group of local organizations and individuals, including the Steveston Rotary, Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, Steveston Harbour Authority, Steveston High School Alumni Association and Steveston Community Society, just to name a few.
If you would like to have a say about this kind of public art in Steveston’s waterfront area, take a few minutes to respond to the City of Richmond’s Public Art Program Survey; your input may help to shape the future look and feel of the public spaces around the Cannery and its neighbours!
