Fin-tastic Finds in the Cannery Store – Reusable Face Masks
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society is a non-profit charitable organization which operates the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site on behalf of Parks Canada. All proceeds from the Society gift shop go toward operations, staffing, and programming at the historic site. Senior Interpreter Lina K. writes about some of our popular items in the Cannery Store.
Be kind, be calm, and be safe with face masks showcasing designs from fish to Indigenous art by local artists.
In the Cannery’s gift shop, you can find reusable face masks from Native Northwest, which feature west coast images of sasquatches, orcas, and hummingbirds. The mask is made of two layers, both 100% cotton, and have a pocket between layers for a filter. The masks have adjustable ear loops and a flexible nose bridge for your comfort. Kids’ versions with different designs are also available, best fit for children 3-10 years old.
The second set of masks are children’s and adults’ masks with the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society logo and salmon, designed by Sue Coleman. They have adjustable straps and are double layered, an external 100% polyester layer and internal 100% cotton.
Last but not least are marine-themed masks from the Vancouver Aquarium – these vibrant blue masks feature halibut, scallops, clams, and other animals in the sea. The masks come with adjustable straps and a little fabric bag to keep your masks in-between use. The outer layer is made of 95% polyester and 5% spandex, while the inner layer is 100% cotton.
Make sure to always wash your mask before your first use and to wash your hands or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer before and after touching the mask. Let’s do our part to flatten the curve!
