Family Fun in Steveston

Bring some paper and a crayon to make your own rubbings – find these ones by the Steveston’s  Legacy Statues in front of the Cannery

Looking for an exciting outing for your family? Visit the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site and enjoy free admission for youth under 18! While you are in Steveston Village visiting the Cannery, here are some other family-friendly attractions and activity suggestions within walking distance. Pack some paper and crayons, a towel, and plenty of water to prepare for an adventure exploring Steveston.

Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site

  • Enjoy free admission for youth under 18 and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of our historic building
  • Ask our front desk for a Parks Canada Xplorers activity booklet (for ages 6 to 11 yrs) and complete the activities for a souvenir prize
  • Sit on our iconic Parks Canada red chairs and enjoy the view of active Steveston Harbour (don’t forget to take a photo and post with #SharetheChair)
  • Take pictures with our cannery worker cutouts
  • Search and look for our heritage “wall of scales”
  • Enjoy our short film Journey Through Time (included in admission)

Steveston’s Legacy Statues

  • Pose and take a picture with the statues in front of the Cannery
  • Take out your paper and crayons/colouring pencils and collect the rubbings (see photo above) along the cement benches

Boardwalk along the Fraser River

  • Try to spot different fishing or commercial boats that you learned about from the Cannery’s Fishing the West Coast Gallery
  • Take a break and grab a tasty treat from one of the many food stalls/restaurants (see below for some family-friendly restaurant ideas)

Town Square Park at Steveston Museum

  • Find out who “Big Red” is and see if you can find his commemorative plaque
  • Stop for some quiet time and enjoy the soothing sounds and motion of the suikinkutsu (water feature) in the Japanese-inspired garden

Steveston Community Park

  • Take a glimpse into the building housing the Steveston Interurban Tram
  • Burn off some energy at the playground
  • Cool off from the heat in the waterpark (that’s why bring a towel) 😊
