Announcement of Executive Director Transition

After four amazing years as the Executive Director of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, I have accepted a new position with the Royal Alberta Museum as the Director of Engagement and Education. My last day as ED will be at the end of this month on August 24th. This was a challenging decision as I sincerely value the Society, the team and all of the work that we do; I think this is a special site with an amazing team of staff who work very hard to showcase the stories of fishing on the West Coast. While I am confident this is the right decision for myself and my family, it is definitely a bittersweet one. I am sincerely going to miss our partners, community members and the special place that is both the Cannery and Steveston.

My time at the Society has seen a lot of change and the weathering of a pandemic; I am thankful that we were able to get through the past few years as a strong team, with a renewed site and shared commitment to moving forward in all aspects of our operation. I know as the pandemic bubble recedes and the Society forges a strong path forward, it will be a time of potential and strength.

With a strong Board, an excellent Management team, and all of our dedicated staff and volunteers, I know I am leaving the Society in incredible hands! It has been a privilege and an honor to serve as your Executive Director and one of the highlights of my career. Best “fishes” for the bright future ahead.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Halapija
