How many wooden pilings are under the Gulf of Georgia Cannery?
a) 150
b) 300
c) 600
The answer is just one of the fun facts participants will hear during the Under the Rafters tours during Doors Open Richmond on June 2 and 3rd, 2018.
Since 1894, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery has operated as a salmon cannery, a herring cannery, a fresh fish plant, a herring reduction plant, and a net loft. The built structure of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery illustrates these many functions. Each year, during Doors Open Richmond, the Society offers free behind-the-scenes tours that include some of the areas of the building that are not usually open to the public. This year, the tours will investigate the relationship between the form of the building and its many functions.
Tour times:
Saturday June 2nd at 2:30pm
Sunday June 3rd at 10:30am
Sunday June 3rd at 2:30pm
Space is limited, and pre-registration is strongly recommended. To register, call 604.664.9009, or sign-up in person at the Cannery’s Front Desk. Tours are suitable for youth and adults, and are not wheelchair accessible.
