Cannery at the Richmond Science Jam
After a bit of a hiatus, we continue our blog series by the Society’s Youth Leadership Volunteer Hania, who describes the team’s experience with the Cannery’s outreach booth at Richmond’s Science Jam in February. Photos by Leadership Volunteer J.Wei.
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site joined this year’s Richmond Science Jam held at Aberdeen Centre on February 26, where we met many people and presented the “Cannery Challenge”. The Science Jam is an annual celebration of science and learning, held during Education Week by Richmond School District No. 38. After the fun opening acts, everyone was ready to explore what the students had to offer. All the projects had a lot of effort and work put into them, and it showed through the presenters’ smiles. The Cannery’s Leadership Team created a fun and educational game where the player labels the different parts of the Salmon, Halibut, or Sturgeon. After all their hard work in preparation, they were glad to see that the players enjoyed the game. The team was very impressed by how well our student visitors did!
