Cannery A to Z: F is for Fish Wall

The popular Fish Wall exhibit in the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site displays life-size models of commercially caught fish and shellfish found on Canada’s West Coast.

Did you know that there are five species of Pacific salmon that return to the Fraser River? In the wild, they might be hard to recognize, but the Fish Wall will help you learn about their unique differences. In addition to the salmon, there are other species featured on the wall, each with a model, an explanation of key features, and information on how it is caught commercially. Prepare to be surprised at the variety of local sea creatures – including a local shark called the spiny dogfish, and the 3-metre long freshwater fish called the sturgeon. From tiny prawns to the wide and flat halibut, exploring the Cannery’s Fish Wall is a great way to get to know your local fish, without jumping into the water.
